"What a great site! I love it! I think changing the public perception of breastfeeding to show mums they can stay stylish and still breastfeed is much needed to fill a support void in Ireland. Culturally it is our public perception which holds so many people back.

Who is  Lactation Midwife? Consultant? Counsellor?

Who does what and what qualifications do they have?



Cuidiú

Breastfeeding Counsellors

Cuidiú Breastfeeding counsellors run support groups but are also qualified to counsel mums on breastfeeding issues. These are voluntary workers in the field of breastfeeding.


La Leche League

Leaders. 

LLLeaders lead groups and discussions.  These are also voluntary workers in the field of breastfeeding.


The Association of Lactation Consultants in Ireland

Lactation Consultants,

all of who are IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants).

Lactation Consultants are professionals who work in private practice and in hospital settings, they adhere to a very strict code of ethics and standard of practise as laid out by both IBLCE and ILCA as well as by our own Irish organisation. 


 

There are different levels of skills and knowledge associated with all three.
