Its no huge surprise that very few women in Ireland breastfeed. We aren’t given the right support from the start, never mind not being able to find it! We as the women and mothers of the next generation have alone got the power to change this, and give our babies the very best.

This website has been developed by a doctor and a breastfeeding mum. As a medic I was ashamed to say that I was simply appalled at the lack of breastfeeding support that was available when I had my first baby (and second). I had learnt nothing about breastfeeding in medical school, and well, there really isn’t a motherhood school for us is there!?

I put this to my friends and found I wasn’t alone in what I had experienced.
Friends who had just had babies had similar experiences and we all wanted the same thing. Unless someone close to us (like a mum or best friend) was with us to offer support and advice, we were on our own. Yes, it possible to get all the information out there alright, but not without hours online, endless books, many phonecalls, healthcare visits etc etc!.

So we got together and brainstormed up the concept of an all encompassing “one stop shop” for breastfeeding mums and health professionals where everyone can get the information and help and support we so very much need. And so the concept for a girl friendly, no holes barred website for breastfeeding full of good, down to earth advice and information was created!

TheBreastWay is a non profit organisation - we hopefully will get some advertisements in the future, and this small amount will go directly into the website.
